Lanzarote owes much of its sympathetic development style to a gent called César Manrique. I doubt you can drive more than a few kilometers before you come across one of his works or something that he has influenced. Allegedly a good mate, one of his role models was Picasso, you can guess what style and where he was going with some of his work. His influence is all over the island. His use of simple and natural materials including the wind in some of his sculptures is awesome. You will need to visit his foundation in Tahiche to gain a better understanding of the legacy this great man has left for the island of Lanzarote and its people.
Costa Teguise is situated just to the north of the airport and Arrecife the capital of Lanzarote, about 15/20 minutes by taxi transfer. Taxi drivers the world over seem to have been to the same driving schools and had the speed tests. Costa Teguise is the second largest resort in Lanzarote and has three gently sloping golden beaches. Las Cucharas the largest of the resorts beaches approximately 3/4km all the way around its spoon shaped bay. This beach is world famous as a wind surfing centre hosting world champion heats in its waters. Many other water sports and activities are available close to hand. To the south of Las Cucharas is the smaller beach of Playa Bastian, very sheltered and with golden sands. To the north is Los Charcos a small group of sandy coves sheltered by volcanic rock groins great for fishing and snorkeling. Along the main beach front are many water activity shops offering Diving, Kayaking, Kite surfing and the obligatory Wind surfing. You can even book a wave surfing trip or even courses to Famara beach and La Santa. Tuition and lessons are available for most sports from the novice through to the more expert.
Many activities take place in and around the beach area. The local authority at various times of the year supports music and cultural events, the Spanish fiesta’s being well supported including firework displays normally at the end of a significant period. Music, cultural and sporting events are normally well advertised.
The resort has been well planned and is relatively flat which makes it perfect for young families or those not so good on their feet. Good kerb access ramps have been well placed by the local council to assist the wheel chair user. Some off road terrain is available for the more experienced rider. Less able equipment is available from a local supplier who also delivers.
The resort boasts the Islands only golf course at Teguise Golf. A short 5 min taxi ride. In this same taxi trip you will pass the islands only Aqua Park. Both these facilities are open 7 days per week.
The resort is well served with smaller and medium sized supermarkets, stocked with a full range of local and European produce. There is a Friday night market in the largest of the town squares, were you can sit and people watch after your evening meal. Or spend a few Euros and buy some gifts, many of which are hand made. The normal “Brand” name sunglasses are available for €8 !!!!
There is an abundance of quality restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. You will be spoilt with the range of world cuisines. China to Italy and the more unusual of Argentinean and Swiss. Not forgetting the many local run establishments serving the fantastic island produce of fish, meats and the local goat and rabbit. Try the local tapas for a lunch or even a light evening meal. You can in fact eat in a different part of the world for the 7 days of the week and more. Children and vegetarian cuisine is also very well catered for. Many restaurants will display the chilled produce to be cooked that day and have sample menus for you to view before you enter the premises.
Costa Teguise is well served with local bars, some of which are themed with the typical type of holiday entertainment. Most of which allow and welcome children of all ages. Costa Teguise can be described in one phrase as “a lively couples and family oriented resort”.
In and around the resort centre you will find a good range of shopping, fashion and gift shops with both island produced goods and world wide brands. Internet café bars, snack, tapas and patisserie locals. The list goes on. We have a local post office, bike shop, hairdressers, an island tour outlet and the local cop shop within the area of the Villasun Las Calas villas.
Although Costa Teguise has the feel of a busy all year round sunshine resort it has not lost any of its charm over the development years. Along with many Spanish owners many local business are owned by a multitude of European nationals and beyond. You will not find row upon row of British bull dog bars or for that matter any nationality. The resort still has that look, feel and in fact is still very much Spanish.
The villas of Villasun are some of the best located and served of all the resorts property. We are well located for the majority of what is required to make that holiday enjoyable, relaxing and that all important item stress free. We are in fact some of the closest villas to the main Las Cucharas beach that can offer a private fully heated pool, 3-4 mins walk. No car required. !!!
